A graduate of the UB School of Law in 2012, Atty. Nerisa Q. Bayan is dedicated to bettering her community through outreach and exceptional service.
She is passionate about educating the youth, coordinating Project G.A.T.E.L. (Giving Aid To Education / Learning) to support public schools in far-flung areas all over the Cordilleras. The initiative has benefitted around 2000 students by donating school and office supplies and other services such as free haircuts to prepare the students for their classes.
The team’s most recent outreach took them to Cawayan Elementary School in Asipulo, Ifugao where they aided nearly 200 students through their outreach efforts. They also went to Kapangan Central Elementary School and established a Reading Corner to encourage reading amongst the young learners of the community.
Apart from her outreach initiatives she also serves as the elected punong barangay of Kayang Extension Barangay and continues practicing law alongside her other responsibilities. She works pro-bono cases under IBP (Integrated Bar of the Philippines) Legal Aid as a means to help those who are not able to afford private legal aid.
Atty, Bayan and her efforts to uplift the community through outreach and legal services are no small feat. Her continued service to her community is a glowing reflection of the university’s pursuit of excellence and empowered professionals, She is an inspiration to others who want to walk the same path, showcasing the harmony of public service and private practice as a means to give back to the members of one’s community.
